FACES OF CHANGE

  • Micro-foresty for a better future

    Ms. Chidzidzingo, Kenya

Ms. Chidzidzingo is a farmer in a drought-prone village along the coast of Kenya. Toiling the parched land is tiring and unprofitable, creating a scarcity of food and resources.

To find a solution, the Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan Fund for the Environment (PSAKFE) partnered with the Coastal Rural Support Programme in Kenya and KOMAZA, a nonprofit organization in Kenya, to jumpstart micro-forestry in this dry region. Planting trees will infuse the soil with essential nutrients and create a sustainable source of income for farmers.

Ms. Chidzidzingo sings to her trees to help them grow. She is participating in the project to save money to send her grandchildren to school. Because of Ms. Chidzidzingo‘s dedication and the opportunity provided to her by the project, these children will now have the chance to build a better future for themselves and their community.
